Ha Ha Tonka – An Exclusive Live Performance

Submitted by Sean Brna on June 8, 2010 – 9:01 pm2 Comments

From the breathtaking Ozark region of Missouri comes the rock group known as Ha Ha Tonka (btw, there is a state park in Missouri known as Ha Ha Tonka State Park). This band has been around for about 8 years, recording 4 studio releases in that time, but prior to 2007 was known under the moniker amsterband. Ha Ha Tonka is now on the legendary Chicago blues record label Bloodshot Records. After their well-received 07′ release Buckle in the Bible Belt, and their successful 09′ release Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South they have become nationally recognized and earned the ability to yearly play in many festivals all across America.

Ha Ha Tonka is a 4 piece band that plays a stouthearted amalgam of blues-rock, southern-rock, bluegrass and western with an indie flair. Their music is swanky, twangy, with midwestern soul and Nashville’ian energy. Lead singer Brian Roberts has an rousing and determined voice that can he uses with projected gusto, or with glassy sedateness, but either way its discernible and he wants you to hear what they have to say. This is roots rock for the new generation, and like their predecessors, Ha Ha Tonka addresses the good and bad aspects of American life with equal respect in their lyrics. The are a latter-day embodiment of Southern vitality, put to rock music.
